No, you don't need to be an advanced woodworker to benefit from a membership at Knock on Wood. The only requirement is that you're skilled enough to work independently and use the space in a safe, respectful manner.

For those who learn with us, we usually find it takes around 2 courses (25 hours) worth of supervised/guided crafting.

How do I know which membership package is right for me?

Can I cancel my membership if I don't need to access the workshop?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel your membership at the end of each renewal period (1/3/6/12 months depending on which package you choose).

If you want to have more flexibility, we advise you to go for the 1/3-month packages.

Is there a limit to the size or quantity of projects I can make?

Accepted Answer

No two projects are the same, so we don't have a specific limit on project size or quantity.

Instead, we are guided by the following principles:
- For projects that cause an "abnormal" strain on the machines or use significant storage space, we may ask for additional payment. 
- Anyone looking to mass-produce or produce for sale must inform us expressly before starting membership. They will be given a personalised quote based on their planned workshop use.

In addition to workshop access, our members get the following perks:

A 20% discount on all workshops and courses;
Free participation at our monthly members' gatherings;
Participation in the workshop's development by dedicating up to 10% of membership contributions towards workshop improvements;
Freeze your membership for 1, 2, or 4 weeks for the 3, 6, and 12 month packages respectively;
Discounted private support hours (70 chf instead of 90 chf) for the first month of membership to help you bridge the gap to independence.

Do I need to know all the machines to be a member?

We offer three types of membership:

Classic membership — full access to all tools and machines;
Turning membership — for those only use the lathe;
Hand tool membership — for those who only use hand tools (50% off our standard prices).

You can use your entries freely throughout the duration of your contract, so feel free to have an extra session the following week or later.

You just need to make sure that you average maximum 1 entry per week throughout your membership period.
